Meet Chris Mapps
Business Agent & Labor Relations Consultant
Chris Mapps is proud to be working with AFGE Local 3 and assisting its officers, stewards, and members at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center.
Chris has been an AFGE member since 2015 and has spent more than a decade representing and advocating for federal employees.
He previously served as President of AFGE Local 2280 at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain, Michigan, and later served as a National Representative for AFGE District 7.
Over the years, he has worked alongside employees and union leaders on everything from everyday workplace concerns to complex grievances, arbitrations, collective bargaining, disciplinary and adverse actions, EEO complaints, MSPB appeals, FLRA matters, and other federal-sector labor issues.
Chris also attended law school at the University of Colorado, where his legal education further strengthened the knowledge and skills he brings to federal employee and labor representation.
Today, he is President and Labor Relations Consultant of Capital Labor Relations Group, LLC, focusing on federal-sector labor relations and serving as a Business Agent assisting AFGE Locals and individuals on statutory appeals.
Before beginning his career in federal labor relations, Chris served in the United States Army, including deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. He is a Bronze Star recipient and credits his military service with helping shape his approach to leadership: take care of your people, be prepared, and never be afraid to stand up for them when it matters.
For Chris, union representation is personal. He believes members should know their representatives, feel comfortable reaching out when they need help, and know that someone is willing to listen, give them a straight answer, and stand beside them when they are facing a workplace issue.
Chris is excited to get to know the members of Local 3 and looks forward to working alongside the Local’s leadership and stewards to strengthen representation, protect employee rights, and make sure Local 3 members have a strong voice in the workplace.
